Q: How much rope can winches pull?
A: Standard winches can pull an infinite length of rope and do not require the end of the rope to install onto the drum. Captive reel winches have a limited pull length, but each size winch is available in multiple throw lengths.
Q: Do I have to hold the tail of the rope while operating the winch?
A: The majority of Harken winches are fitted with a self-tailing jaw. This holds the rope captive during and after winching.
Q: How do I ease the load?
A: Our electric winches ease the rope at the touch of a button. On conventional winches, the rope is removed from the self-tailing jaw eased by hand with most of the load held by the wraps on the drum.
Q: Can I use an electric winch if there is a power outage?
A: Yes. A Harken winch handle inserted into an unloaded winch automatically disconnects the motor gear for manual operation.
Q: Is this winch suitable for human suspension?
A: In accordance with Directive 2009/104/EC persons may be lifted only by means of work equipment and accessories provided for that purpose.
