Harken Industrial™ Winch Options for Carbon Fiber Davits

Business Segment: Commercial marine

Location: Lymington, UK

Project Description: Atlas Carbon Products makes carbon fiber davits to make light work of a variety of lifting tasks. These davits are rated to lift up to 500 kg (1102 lb), but are light enough to be removed by hand. The company’s requirement was for powered or manual winches that would protect the rope and maximize its lifespan during winching operations.

Solution/Equipment Used: Harken Industrial™ provided a simple solution with a custom-designed texture on the winch drum that keeps rope wear to a minimum, thus extending rope life. With a maximum pull of 900 kg (1984 lb), Harken Industrial’s lightweight, low-profile UniPower Radial winch was the perfect choice as a motorized option.

Its clean lines worked perfectly with the Atlas carbon davits. The 80 Self-Tailing Radial winches were the choice for manual winches. Harken pulleys in the purchase system made lifting extremely efficient. Their high-load capabilities fulfilled the requirements for certified applications, allowing the user to lift and lower high loads with confidence.

Summary: Harken Industrial, a leader in rope management and load-handling systems in industry and marine, has been making light work of lifting and managing loads at sea and ashore for some 50 years. Driven by its ethos of “strong-but-light and less friction,” its range of more than 400 blocks and pulleys, manual and powered winches, and now with the benefit of new generations of ultralight (stronger than steel) fiber ropes, Harken is transforming load handling for marine applications. Harken Industrial’s range of manual and electric winches is the preferred choice for many Atlas customers, ranging from superyachts and workboats to industrial and defense applications.
